China overtaking the U.S. as Japan's biggest trading partner seems important to me. The less dependant China and Japan are on the dollar exchange rate I would say the better it is for the entire financial system. Maybe this trade volume between China and Japan backslides a bit whenever the renmimbi is adjusted but I would guess the trend towards increased regional trade is in place for the long run.
